ROMSEY Ramblers have been working hard to clear a footpath that had become overgrown with brambles, branches and nettles.

The group of six cleared the path that runs north along the canal bank from Fishlake Meadows to the A3057 between Romsey and Timsbury.

Les Mildon, from the group, said: “The path is not often used as a through route given its exit onto A3057, where there is no path or grass verge.

“It is, however, enjoyed by people wanting to spot wildlife and take in the views along the canal and adjacent water meadows.

Hampshire Chronicle:

“The path alignment is along the top of the canal-side bank, but this becomes blocked with vegetation and occasionally, fallen trees. Walkers are then forced to make their way down into the water meadow which can become flooded and impassable.

“Having cleared the vegetation, walkers can once again enjoy the delights of the area and hopefully see swans and egrets, especially when the meadows are flooded.”
