A TEST VAlley village primary school is celebrating a 'huge achievement' after a recent Ofsted inspection.
Awbridge Primary, which currently has 170 children, was graded 'good' by inspectors who visited on November 7 and 8.
Headteacher Jayne Fahey said: “We are graded as a good school overall but were awarded judgements of outstanding in three of the five categories: behaviour and attitudes; personal development; and early years provision.
“A grading of outstanding, in any area, is a huge achievement. Since the previous inspection in 2017 the threshold levels have become more challenging, as every aspect of the criteria must be evidenced to achieve a grade of outstanding. The current Ofsted framework puts a strong emphasis on the wider curriculum and its leadership by teachers.

“In the context of a small, school with staff who take responsibility for three subjects each, alongside teaching mixed age classes, it was just one subject area that need a little more development in terms of progression of learning which we are working on.
“As a school we continually work hard on our core and wider curriculum.
“Nationally our results are classified as significantly above average.”
The Ofsted report said: “The school’s curriculum is ambitious and well-constructed. Careful thought has ensured that pupils in mixed-age classes learn progressively over time. In particular, both in reading and mathematics, they achieve highly in statutory assessments.
“Warm relationships exist between pupils that extend across year groups. Pupils are kind and helpful. Pupils behave exceptionally well. High expectations for pupils’ conduct are held by all staff. Pupils consistently live up to the school value of respect.
“The school rules are well known by all. Pupils are encouraged to think about the choices they make and enjoy being rewarded for doing the right thing.
“The personal development opportunities provided by the school are exceptional. Children get off to a flying start in early years. Here, the school has ensured that children learn from an expertly designed curriculum.”
