A COMMUNITY energy group in the Test Valley is highlighting ways Romsey can tackle the climate crisis.

Dragonfly Power recently gave a presentation in Romsey to raise awareness of its work.

It is an initiative from environmental organisation Transition Town Romsey.

Anton Page, from Dragonfly, told the Romsey Forum, on Thursday, November 30, what the group does.

He said: “Our aim is to increase uptake of renewable energy working with businesses, schools and other community organisations.

“Dragonfly Power will work with the owner of a suitable site to install renewable energy equipment such as rooftop solar panels.

“Installation costs are funded by Dragonfly Power. The building user will benefit from cheaper electricity generated on site through a power purchase agreement with Dragonfly Power.

“Dragonfly Power will own, maintain and manage the equipment. The cost of the works will be raised by a local share offer by Dragonfly Power and the income from electricity sales will pay off investors.”

The prime objective of Dragonfly Power is to install more renewable energy equipment across Test Valley, which would reduce the dependence on fossil fuels.

In 2019, both Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council declared climate emergencies.

Mr Page added: “Dragonfly Power will install solar panels and other renewable energy equipment.

“We will work with owners of community buildings across the borough, to improve energy efficiency and install renewables to reduce their carbon footprint and running costs.

“Provide support groups working to provide advice on energy efficiency for the TVBC community, especially those in fuel poverty.”

After the meeting, he said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to spread the word about Dragonfly Power and the need to urgently tackle climate change at the local level. Dragonfly Power is keen to work with people from across the borough to increase uptake of renewable energy working with businesses, schools and other community organisations.”
