A NEW CEO will be taking over The Winchester Beacon in the New Year.
The homelessness charity, in Jewry Street, has announced Mark Wakeling will succeed Michèle Price, who has been involved with the charity since 2004.
Mr Wakeling has more than 25 years’ experience of leadership in the charity sector and is passionate about social change and creating opportunities for people.
He co-founded Beyond the Streets, a Southampton-based charity working to give women opportunities outside of the sex industry as well as setting up a social enterprise with organisations in the global south to support women hit by human trafficking.

The new CEO said: “I’m excited to be joining the team at The Winchester Beacon and I look forward to helping to ensure that many more people have the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
“To see change, we need safe spaces and a community to work together. It is a privilege to join an excellent team and network of supporters working locally to end homelessness.”
Tracy Jones, chair of the board of directors, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Mark to The Winchester Beacon. Our charity has evolved hugely since the start of the pandemic and we are excited to enter the next phase with Mark at the helm. His experience of the charity sector will be invaluable as we continue to develop to meet the changing needs of the people we support.”
Mark will be welcomed as the CEO in January. For more information about The Winchester Beacon go to winchesterbeacon.org.uk.
