THE next webinar on a developer's vision for a major housing development on the edge of Winchester has been announced.

Bloor Homes unveiled a masterplan for Manor Parks in July which includes a park and ride, a primary school, a tennis facility, and a large country park.

The Manor Parks masterplan, at South Winchester Golf Club, shows there will be around 1,000 homes and that half the site will be retained as green space.

The next webinar on the theme of 'Homes for All' will be held on Thursday, December 7 at 7pm.

In particular, the webinar will cover the struggle that many in and around Winchester experience when trying to find a home for themselves and their families in the city. In total, 40 per cent of the homes at Manor Parks would be affordable housing, provided in conjunction with a housing association.

The speakers are Marie Chadwick - policy leader at the National Housing Federation; and Dr Lucy Greenwood - director of residential research at Savills.

Marie will be explaining the severe need for affordable housing across the country. Lucy will cover the particular issues with affordability in Winchester.

James Matcham, strategic land director at Bloor Homes, said: “No one can deny that every person and their family needs a warm and safe place to call home.

“Sadly, Winchester remains one of the least affordable places to buy or rent a suitable home in the country.  I’m looking forward to Marie Chadwick and Lucy Greenwood outlining the scale of the housing crisis across the UK, and in Winchester specifically, and how the new community at Manor Parks can help address this.

“We are proposing a range of housing at Manor Parks, including key worker housing, alongside other affordable housing and family housing, and are keen to hear the views of local residents and others.

“I look forward to explaining our plans, and answering your questions at the webinar on December 7.”
