The astute, somewhat disappointed analysis by George Hayter of the poor leadership qualities of our current PM betrays a deeper fault.
The underlying expectation that a Winchester College education will automatically render any Head Boy from this privileged bastion, instant Head of State material, prolongs the heavily tarnished myth of private education as the rightful and preferred route to any ‘top job’.
A cursory consideration of the educational backgrounds, competencies and records of three most recent male Prime Ministers will quickly disabuse anyone of such servile expectation.
Let’s rather look to future Premiers from one or all of three excellent state schools with which Winchester is blessed; The Westgate, Henry Beaufort and Kings’ School.
Kind regards
