I read with interest the letter in the Chronicle from Mr Perkins (November 9) regarding the toilets in Winchester.

I was at the cabinet meeting referred to by Mr Perkins at which he and Ian Tait spoke regarding the condition of public toilets. This meeting took place at the beginning of the year and here we are nearly a year on and there has been no visible improvement despite the responder implying that this was in hand.

I visited the toilets behind Greggs last week and there was soiled toilet paper on the floor of cubicles, wet floors in general a disgrace in fact I overheard comments from users remarking on the disgusting state.

Instead of spending money on Kings Walk and erecting a cycle rack in the main car park which only seems to house shopping trollies the council would have earned more brownie points if that money had been spent on refurbishing toilets.

The best toilets in town are in the Guildhall a civic building which appears to be a no-go area both to residents and visitors but one that would be of interest to tourists.
