THE only visible piece of city wall from the Roman period is finally going to be tidied up by the council.
Following a call from Belgarum, Winchester City Council has said it will be de-weeding the city’s last remaining piece of Roman wall in the coming weeks.
The wall from 50-410AD is inside a sort of gated grotto along The Weirs near the outdoor terrace of the Bishop on the Bridge pub.
The plaque on the wall has the city emblem on it.
A spokesperson for Winchester City Council said: “Our special maintenance team will be removing the overgrowth over the next few weeks - it's a slightly longer timeframe than regular weed removal as we need to ensure that no damage to the wall itself occurs."
