Police have vowed to 'relentlessly pursue' anyone shoplifting in Winchester city centre.
Hampshire Constabulary has revealed that ten Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) have been issued this year to stop known thieves.
CBOs, which have replaced ASBOs, are imposed by a court and can restrict where people go, who they associate with, and what activities they are allowed to take part in. Breaching the order is a criminal offence, which can lead to a prison sentence.
Inspector Matt Kirby said: “Our officers have been really proactive this year in working with retailers to successfully apply for these orders, curtailing the behaviour of our most prolific offenders.
“We will continue to look at all options available to us to relentlessly pursue those who offend in this way.
“Anyone who is affected by anti-social behaviour in the area can contact us via the website or by calling 101.”
MOST READ: Serial shoplifter banned from the High Street
This comes as Stephen Wilson has been banned from entering a large part of Winchester city centre.
As previously reported, Wilson, 35, of Durngate, admitted a string of shoplifting offences in the High Street as well as possession of a folding lock knife.
He admitted stealing electrical items, including hair straighteners and a hairdryer, from the Boots store in High Street. Wilson stole a total of six items in two visits to the store in July.
Magistrates imposed a two-year criminal behaviour order that bans him from entering Middle Brook Street between the High Street and St George's Street, and entering the High Street except to visit WH Smith and Boots between 12 noon and 2pm.
