A ROAD connecting Eastleigh and Colden Common will be closed for at least another three days following a burst water main.

Highbridge Road was closed between Brambridge and Allbrook, after Southern Water was called to fix a burst pipe by the railway bridge in Allbrook Hill.

Although the burst was fixed yesterday (October 31), the utility company has said the road will be closed for at least another three days while the road is repaired.

Frustrations are already mounting with drivers ignoring the traffic management with no workmen on site throughout Wednesday, November 1.

Motorists are being diverted down Kiln Lane, the closure caused traffic to build in the area as people travelled to work this morning.

Winchester city councillor for Twyford and Colden Common, Sue Cook, said: “The whole road has been dug out but there is no one there.

“Southern Water has put the pipe back so we’ve got flowing water again which is great but they have not reinstated the road. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

“People have been ignoring the closure and moving bollards as there is no longer excess water on the road. We don’t want people going down there.”

A spokesperson for Southern Water said: “Although the burst has been fixed the damage to the road is more extensive than we anticipated so the traffic management will remain in place for at least three days while this is resolved. Due to the impact of Storm Ciaran this could be longer.”

Bus services have also been disrupted with Stagecoach’s number 61 from Winchester to Eastleigh having to divert via Otterbourne Road and Allbrook Way.
