This June I left the car at home and went by train to visit a friend in Lincoln.
With 40 minutes to kill before catching the bus home, I walked to the bus station and looked in vain for the public toilets.
Eventually I was directed to Abbey Gardens and found the facilities much as Annie Saunders described in last week’s edition (Chronicle, Letters, October 26).
Where she and I differ is who to blame. When I moved to this area in 1994 the bus station was already run down.
The failure to improve this key “Welcome to Winchester” facility lies with all the subsequent administrations. Lincoln is a much-visited cathedral city with a modern well-designed bus station, including public toilets, just the sort of development urgently needed at The Broadway, Winchester.
