A WINCHESTER man has avoided punishment for having cannabis despite pleading guilty.
Macaullay Sherwood, of Winnall Manor Road, Winnall, was handed an absolute discharge at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, October 26.
Sherwood, 28, was forced to hand over a quantity of cannabis to the police when he was caught in Winchester on Saturday, September 23.
The court ruled: “It is inappropriate to punish because Sherwood has spent a month in custody for (another) offence which has now been discontinued and this is a matter that would have otherwise been dealt with by out-of-court disposal.”
No fines were imposed.
