It is just a few weeks until Christmas, so why not show some love to our brilliant independent businesses?
At the Chronicle, we decided to visit ten Winchester businesses in the city centre to fill our gallery above.
In no particular order:
1. Design Junction
Design Junction is based on the Kings walk after South Downs Social and across from Polka Dot Piercing.
After graduating from the University of Southampton, Jake and Amy set up workshops in tufting and pottery, as well as selling the resources to make rugs at home.
2. Pet Pantry
A Mum and Daughter duo set up independent pet stores dedicated to the care and health of all animals. Based on the high street, their shop is filled with delicious domestic treats, as well as food and care for the local wildlife. Pictured are their two dogs, Roxie and Lola.
3. P & G Wells
One of the oldest bookstores in England, P & G Wells is based in Kingsgate village with a number of independent businesses. They sell a variety of fiction and non-fiction, and showcase the local talent with their displays.

8. Bangkok Bistro
Bangkok Bistro is an independent restaurant located on Jewry Street. It specialises in authentic Thai cuisine, and is hoping to move to a bigger location across the road.
9. Catkin & Pussywillow
Inspired by her mum, owner Ellie opened her flower shop to showcase the colour she grew up with in New Forest. Located within Winchester railway station, this plant store is filled with Rhododendron bushes and Narcissi trumpets.
10. The Winchester Bakery
Based on Winchester high street, The Winchester Bakery is part of a restored 17th century building that opened its doors in April 2022. Their yummy pastries draw people in whilst still celebrating the building’s heritage.
