HOTEL rooms above a recently relocated Japanese restaurant have officially opened after a series of delays.
Following a boom in business post covid, Kyoto Kitchen outgrew its base of 11 years in Parchment Street, sparking a yearlong search for a new venue before choosing the former pub Bridge Street House.
The team moved to the new location in July, and the six rooms on the first floor of the former Bridge Street House have now opened.
Owner Miff Kayum had to remove a timber-slatted frame next to the bar and replace it with a fire door to create a new fire escape.
Mr Kayum said: “Even though we're on a main road, it's really quiet here. We kept the style the same in each room, but with individual artwork to give each one its own character.

“Each room has a desk so people can have a quiet place to work. The lamps have a very Japanese aesthetic to them.
“The first guests are booked in for mid-November. It's about building up a reputation. At the moment, we don't have any online reviews so we need to get the awareness out there.
“A lot of the bookings that have come in, coincide with the Christmas market opening, which is no surprise.
“When these opportunities come, you've got to seize them.
“It's such a relief to have it all open now. There have been lots of unexpected challenges.
“I can sleep at night knowing the guests who come here are safe. It's a new breath of life for this old coach house.”
It has four king-size rooms, one smaller room and one for a night porter.
