WINCHESTER Street Pastors have commended a security woman who drove a semi-responsive man to hospital, when no ambulances were available.
Winchester security woman and nurse, Sarah Jane Howard, came to the rescue over the summer when Winchester Street Pastors found a man in need of urgent medical attention.
At around 2am, a team of street pastors found a man on the steps of The Arc in Jewry Street.
He said he didn’t need any help so the team decided to call back and asked CCTV to monitor him.
A few minutes later the team mentioned the man to Sarah Jane who was working on the door of The Old Gaolhouse that night.

By the time the street pastors and Sarah Jane had returned, the man had crossed the road and slumped onto the pavement.
The team called an ambulance and using his phone contacted his parents and wife, who was unable to collect him as she was at home with their children.
The group then waited with the casualty for more than an hour while Sarah Jane went back to run her door.
As no ambulance was available, she returned once the venue had closed at 3.15am with her car and drove the man to hospital.
The man phoned Mark Hibbert-Hingston, coordinator of Winchester Street Pastors, the following day to say he was recovering well and to thank the team for their support. He was incredibly grateful.

Mark presented Sarah Jane with a certificate for her efforts, this month while she was back out working for Alpha Security.
Mike Hobby, who was team leader on the night, said: “As Street Pastors our mission is to care, listen and help where we can. We patrol as a team of three to five men and women from various local churches and are supported by our Prayer Pastors back at base.
“We know that every evening patrol will be different and we usually do not know the outcome of our efforts. At the end of every patrol we pray for a good resolution of any incidents we have been involved in.
“On this occasion, we were glad of the assistance given by Sarah Jane who enabled us to finish our patrol at 3.15am. It is always great to get updates from people we help and know how our prayers have been answered.”
