The Southern Voices choir is preparing to put on a very special remembrance concert aided by some incredible technology.
Using a piece of 21st-century computer wizardry, the choir will be accompanied in real-time by an organ at the Abbey of Saint-Etienne in the French city of Caen, Normandy.
At the heart of the concert, entitled Music for Remembrancetide, the choir will sing Duruflé’s Requiem to mark the weekend of Remembrance.
Gavin Roberts will accompany from the organ console using the remarkable technology of the Hauptwerk Organ, developed in 2002, a computer program allowing the playback of pipe organs from around the world using MIDI and recorded sound samples.

The Saint Etienne organ was built in 1882 by French organ royalty, Aristide Cavaillé-Coll and it has remained more or less untouched since then.
Gavin Roberts studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he is now a Professor.
The concert will take place at St Paul’s Church, St Paul’s Hill, in Winchester on November 11. Starting at 7.30pm, tickets for the concert cost £18 each, or £1 for concessions aged 18 or under. Tickets can be purchased online, at the door or over the phone by calling 0333 666 3366.
