I read with interest the unsurprising news that a nature emergency for the city has been declared.

The population of the city has at least trebled in the past 40 years with no corresponding rise in recreational spaces.

Perhaps it is time for the Church of England Commissioners to reconsider its decision to subject Bushfield Farm to an inappropriate and unnecessary development.

It is surely the perfect opportunity for the church to donate the land to the citizens of Winchester so that the wonderful already rewilded area could benefit our city in perpetuity.

It could be used and enjoyed in the same way that St Catherine’s Hill already is and benefit people’s physical and mental health.
