FUNDING for early-year education was top of the agenda as Winchester's MP visited a preschool in Colden Common.

Steve Brine, who also chairs the all-party group for childhood and early education, was invited to Colden Common Pre-school on Monday, September 18 by the school’s manager Lara Webster.

He was shown around the school, meeting both children and members of staff.

During the visit, Mr Brine and Ms Webster also discussed future plans for funding for two-year-olds, Ofsted requirements, and the difficulties facing independent charitable pack-away early-year settings.

This is an area that both parties are passionate about and are hoping to tackle jointly, as well as the other issues and concerns raised for childcare establishments.

Mr Brine said: “I have always enjoyed visiting Colden Common Pre-School’s community fundraising events but it was nice to pop in and have a proper chat about how they're doing and some of the issues they're facing at this time.

“That is really useful to me as our local MP but also given my national role. I wish the preschool the very best of luck with their upcoming Scarecrow Festival on October 8.”
