Winchester Green Week is fast approaching with a multitude of events planned.

In its sixth year, with new branding and support from a wider range of sponsors, the week, starting on September 23, aims to help the Winchester district grow greener.

Events and activities are organised by local communities, environmental groups, educational institutions, faith groups, local authorities and businesses.

The new Winchester Green Week website lists events and invites everyone to join. There are more than 40 events listed so far.

Green week is an opportunity to learn easy, everyday ways to reduce impacts on the planet. A theme based around fashion, upcycling clothing and learning to repair clothes appears to be emerging in the city centre, with events taking place in Kings Walk and The Brooks from September 23-30.

Winchester School of Art is hosting a range of workshops to create artistic responses to climate change. The Arc, Bella Crafts and the City Museum have similar creative activities planned for youngsters.

Encouragement to cycle is another emerging theme during the week which will feature the Mass Ride on Saturday September 30.

The five events planned for green week by the Winchester Cathedral range from biodiversity and food and will culminate with a gathering and a participatory dance inside the cathedral on Sunday October 1.
