THE director of a recently closed café and wine bar has admitted his love of creating businesses can be detrimental.
Managing director of The Pump House, Alexander Donnan, publicly posted on LinkedIn following the sudden closure of Autumn House in The Square.
Including photos of businesses Mr Donnan previously owned such as Coffee Lab, General Store and Muse Coffee Company, he posted: “I love creating businesses and brands! Can that be a business?
“I can’t steer away from the fact that I have always enjoyed the process of creating new businesses and the pull of that gets me every time; often to the detriment of my other businesses.

“Often I reflect back and consider what could have been if I stuck with just one of these businesses that I created. Spreading myself too thin because of the excitement of owning and creating something new has essentially bitten me on the bum.
“However I do wonder if one day I could have a business that its sole focus is identifying great locations/buildings, create a brand and concept for entrepreneurs and investors… then when the opening has happened we step away?
“Is this too niche?”
Autumn House shut its doors on Monday, August 21, with a small sign in the window that reads: “Autumn House will be closed today until further notice.
“Thank you for your understanding.”
Several of Mr Donnan's other previous businesses including the Coffee Lab chain have been dissolved after accruing debts.

The closure of the café and wine bar followed the recent membership merger with The Pump House, in Garnier Road, St Cross.
The upstairs section of Autumn House was renovated in June, to create a private space and form part of The Pump House members club offering – beginning from August 1.
In a letter addressed to Pump House members, owners Alex Donnan and Laura Turner said that they’re fighting hard to keep the business going in challenging times, after being left with no other option but to cease trading at Autumn House.
When approached for comment, Laura Turner of The Pump House said they would be releasing a statement on the closure of Autumn House when they have more information.
