THE Romsey Beggars Fair has announced that it raised almost £4,000 at its last event.

Music and dance took over the town when the 29th fair returned on Saturday, July 8, with thousands flocking to enjoy the event.

Beggars Fair chair David Vane said: “Romsey Beggars Fair is one of the most popular free musical events in the south promoting local acts and venues. It is organised by a dedicated team of volunteers and is a not-for-profit musical event. We rely on donations, sponsorship, programme sales, traders fees and support from local pubs, businesses and venues.

“This year we collected £3,847 in programme sales and donations on the day!”

“The event has grown considerably from its early days and now has to pay for security, equipment hire, licensing, printing etc and so we are very grateful for all the support that we have received.”

Run entirely by volunteers, the fair is looking for people with a variety of skills to make next year’s event, the 30th Beggars Fair, even more special.

Anyone with experience with Wordpress, programme design, support for the treasurer, grant and sponsorship applications, sales, volunteer co-ordination, publicity or stage and tech management is asked to help.

Those interested in volunteering, even if it is just for the day of the fair, should contact David Vane by emailing chair@beggarsfair.org.uk or visit the Beggars Fair website.
