Residents of a Hampshire caravan park have objected to plans for a former agricultural barn to be used for storage and distribution.

The planning application is for one of the barns at Stoke Common Farm, Bishopstoke Lane, Brambridge, near Colden Common.

The scheme has been recommended for permission by Winchester City Council planning officers and will be decided at the planning committee on Wednesday August 16.

However, seven residents of the nearby Ideal Park Homes Caravan Park have objected as well as Colden Common Parish Council.

The building was previously occupied by car repair business HD Paintworks.

Debbie Harding, Colden Common Parish Council clerk, said: “This application is a substantial change from land in the countryside used for agricultural purposes. We understand that residents close to the application site are concerned about noise pollution.”

Ideal Park Homes Caravan Park resident Julie Whale said: “My property is directly adjacent to one of the barns. I am an OAP and the reason we bought in this location was for the quiet.

“I have underlying health conditions and have big concerns with the additional traffic, bringing more pollution, that could cause flare ups of my condition.

“I am concerned with my privacy, due to the close proximity of the barn to my property, and also concerns with security because of the increased footfall.”

Alan Heath said: “My reason for objection is due to the volume of traffic leaving the farm and the noise of the engines revving, which is a danger for people who have to walk this lane for daily activities and walking their dogs, horse riders, etc. Also the smell of fumes from the vehicles when they speed around the farm.”

Tom Issac said: “I strongly object to the application due to my health.

“The particles and paint fumes from the extractor fan make my condition worse, I must rest during the day because of my illness the noise from the vehicles entering and leaving the farm disturbs me which makes me get stressed out which is not good for my health also the dust from the vehicles driving in and out of the farm yard covers my premises.”

In the planning statement, Richard Goodall, of Advoco Planning, said: “The application site forms part of a small complex of former and redundant farm buildings located within a semi-rural area, albeit with some significant urban influences including a park home site to the north and overhead power lines which oversail the site. Given the low intensity and limited scale of the proposed uses against its historic agricultural use, the nature and level of activity is considered acceptable and does not unreasonably impact upon the amenities of adjoining residents.”
