THE sun was shining for the return of the Alfie’s Wish charity golf day.

The event at Ampfield Golf Club, was deemed a huge success, raising £20,000 for the charity supporting children with cancer, and beating last year’s total.

Alfie’s Wish was set up by Charlotte, 44, and James Butler, 49, after their son Alfie died in 2020 at just five years old.

The charity golf day, on Friday, July 21, was once again organised by the Butlers' friends Luke and Louise Maunders who have raised £38,000 over the past two years from different golfing events.

Former Saints footballer, Jason Dodd, was one of 76 people who took part, with his company Proco Football Club entering a team for the second year.

The ex-premier league star said: "We at Proco entered into what is such a great event, so well run and enjoyable and the most important aspect is that Alfie's Wish raises lots of money to help it going forward. We hope to enter a team every year and would recommend the day to anyone. Keep up the good work Alfie's Wish."

Alfie’s mum Charlotte said: “We are incredibly proud to have raised £20,000 which is even more than last year.

“Fundraising has been a lot harder this year due to the cost of living crisis so the money raised will make such a difference as sadly children being diagnosed with cancer continues to happen every day. These children do not always have time on their side therefore it is so important we continue to raise funds to support these families.”

The charity works closely with UK hospitals, accepting referral applications with the aim of funding a day out for children with cancer (aged zero to 16) and their families.
