THE Worthy Players celebrated its 50th anniversary with a big party at the Jubilee Hall on Saturday, July 22. The amateur dramatic group posted on Facebook: “The Worthy Players certainly know how to put on a show. But this spectacular didn't involve a play, nor a pantomime.
“The organising committee provided lashings of party fare and our longest-serving member, Shirley Lovell, cut the Jubilee cake commemorating the club's history from 1973 to 2023.
“Introduced by chairman, Martin Pettigrew, two other long-servers, Alison and David Woolford, recounted a number of witty anecdotes from their experiences over the years.
“A projected slide show of pictures from many past stage performances was displayed to the guests of supporters and past members and we all toasted the occasion with a glass of bubbly.
“Finally, in the evening, we were treated to a fabulous flight of fancy when former members of the fantastic Flight family returned from their new home in Essex and played a selection of well-known classics for our entertainment. A long day, but highly successful - roll on the next 50 years.”
AFTER 13 years at Sparsholt Primary School, learning support assistant (LSA), Wendy Williams, has retired following a final farewell on the last day of term.
Writing in the school newsletter, Mrs Williams, said: “My career in early years spans 18 years in total. I started working at Sparsholt C of E Primary School in 2010 – a sprightly 52 year old.
“It has always been more than just a job to me. I would like to thank Sparsholt parents for your generous gifts, messages and for taking time to reminisce (some of us go back a long way) on your child’s / children’s first year at school.
“Thank you to the children of Sparsholt – I leave with many, many memories of you all. Finally a big thank you to the staff of Sparsholt C of E Primary School. You are an amazing team of talented and supportive people. I will miss you all very much, but the time has finally come to hang up my whistle.”
