It was reassuring to read in Andrew Napier's article in the Chronicle that there is a possibility that the Station Approach scheme might be postponed (Chronicle, July 6).
So many of these schemes for the regeneration of Winchester do not have the approval of those of us living here, and we are forever grateful to the Winchester Deserves Better campaign for stopping the last one.
But campaigns of this nature should not be necessary if the city council could see these schemes in relation to the importance of what should be Winchester's special role in keeping heritage cities safe from large developments such as the one that was {is} in the pipeline.
Thank you, too, to Chris Blackman for his letter in the Chronicle (June 29); his sentiments entirely mirror my own.
