SEVENTEEN people tested positive for cocaine during an anti-drugs operation at Winchester’s Wetherspoons.
Police officers tested 145 people upon entry to The Old Gaolhouse Wetherspoons in Jewry Street on Friday, June 23 following concerns from Winchester pubs and bars on drug use within their venues.
The 17 people who tested positive for cocaine were refused entry and one woman was given a community resolution for possession.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: “Depending on the reading received, entry was refused – if a significant reading was displayed then officers engaged with those involved.
“One woman admitted to possession of cocaine, the amount of which was consistent with personal use. She was given a community resolution in relation to this.”
Officers used a rapid scan machine to test for traces of drugs and said in a post on Facebook: “We will continue to work in partnership with licensed venues and Police Licensing to ensure the safety of those out enjoying Winchester's night time economy.”
