A renowned is preparing to perform classical film hits at the Romsey Festival's gala concert.

The Southampton Concert Orchestra will be at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, near Romsey, on Saturday July 8.

People are encouraged to bring a picnic, with gates opening at 6.15pm. The concert starts at 7.30pm.

The orchestra, under conductor Paul Ingram, is performing a wide range of music including Elgar, Parry, Coates, Tchaikovsky and John Williams.

Paul said: “The gala concert of the Romsey Festival is always a popular event and the orchestra is very much looking forward to it.

“We are bringing a hugely popular programme including Gerswin's An American in Paris, music from ET and Pirates of the Caribbean, and Waltz of the Flowers from Tchaikovky's Nutcracker. 

“With gates opening at 6.15pm there is plenty of time for a picnic and some drinks before the music begins at 7.30pm. We've even thrown in some patriotic works in this Coronation year including Walton's Crown Imperial, Nimrod from Elgar's Enigma Variations and Jerusalem.”
