A BORDON man received minor injuries after falling into a well.

The 76-year-old was rescued by firefighters after falling into the well in the back garden of his home on Forge Lane on Monday, June 19. The man fell due to water causing part of the well to erode, creating a void underneath the garden patio.

Fire crews from Liphook and Cosham attended the scene alongside a specialist technical team from Eastleigh. The man was retrieved via a rope system and then assessed by paramedics. The man was found to have only received minor injuries from his fall, including cuts and bruises.

Firefighters put a cordon around the unsafe area before returning to the station at 7.40pm.

Station manager Si Forster said: “Working closely with our emergency services partners in SCAS we were able to swiftly formulate a plan to reach and rescue the casualty, preventing him from suffering any further harm.

“I want to praise our crews who all played a key role in ensuring a positive outcome to this incident with a quick and efficient response.

“Our dedicated rope teams train everyday for incidents like this, and the skill and professionalism they displayed today was phenomenal.”

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “Earlier this week we had a very unique 999 call out to a man trapped down a well in Bordon, Hampshire. Our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) worked with firefighters and specialist rope teams from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The patient had fallen two metres onto a slope and was very fortunate not to slide down further as he would then have fallen a further 12 metres to the bottom of the well. Once rescued from underground, he was assessed by our paramedic team and had luckily only suffered minor cuts and bruises.”
