A PLAY area in Kings Worthy has been forced to close due to safety concerns.

Kings Worthy Parish Council closed Eversley Park play area on Wednesday, June 21 after finding glass and broken ceramics inside the park.

The parish council posted on Facebook before 10am: “Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances and for safety reasons, Eversley Park play area has had to be temporarily closed.

“There has been glass and broken ceramics found within the park. The PC are working on rectifying the situation and will reopen the park once rectified.

“We endeavour to get this sorted in as short a time as possible and will keep you updated.”

The parish clerk has been contacted for more information and the play area remains closed. It’s not yet known if it was vandalism but people commenting on the Facebook post have assumed so following an incident earlier this year.

The new park’s fencing in Loader Close was targeted by vandals in May, delaying hopes of opening the revamped playground in time for the King’s Coronation.

The parish council now hopes to open the park area, in early July, two months later than planned following the installation of the play tower.
