MORE than 300 runners have taken the opportunity to “run the runway” to raise money for Naomi House and Jacksplace.
The inaugural Solent Airport 5k offered 350 participants a unique opportunity to beat their personal best on a flat, straight and smooth stretch of asphalt. The even terrain of the runway provided an advantage for the athletes, resulting in many achieving or beating their best times.
The event has raised £6,000 which will go to help fund the services provided by the hospices. Participants who successfully finished the course were awarded medals by Fareham’s Mayor and mayoress, Cllr Fred and Lisa Birkett.
Charlotte Patrick, senior events fundraiser at Naomi House and Jacksplace, said: “We have a full and varied event portfolio, however, we are always keen to add new events. As a keen jogger, I know how much this new and unique event appealed to so many local runners.

“This was such an exciting event which was made possible by Solent Airport and Fareham Borough Council, we are really thankful for their joint support. We would like to thank all the participants who attended the Solent Airport 5k and helped to raise vital funds for Naomi House & Jacksplace.”
Martyn Francis, airport manager for Solent Airport, said: “It was a pleasure to be able to host, and take part in, the inaugural Solent Airport 5k.
“All of the team at the airport are very proud to be supporting such a wonderful charity and there was no doubt that this event would be a huge success and attract the amount of participants to help raise the funds for the continued support of the families.
“Naomi House and Jacksplace events team have laid firm foundations for future runway runs at Solent Airport and I look forward to working with them in the forthcoming years.”.
