A HAMPSHIRE man has labelled overflowing recycling bins as a “disgraceful mess” and potentially dangerous.
Terence Jamieson, of Firgrove Close, was disappointed to see excess waste and recycling dotted around the bins at his local recycling sites in North Baddesley.
Mr Jamieson was quick to contact Test Valley Borough Council and received a response two days later to say the hazards had been cleared but only because several councillors had been alerted.

Terence said: "The need for recycling is a discipline that must be kept in the public mind and be seen to be done, leaving several months’ worth of collected items out in the open is not a good example being set to the school children who pass the disgraceful mess created by inadequate collections daily. The glass banks in particular when overflowing create hazards of broken glass which in the hot sunny weather can lead to fire and the potential injury to dogs and more.”
The North Baddesley resident was told by the council that the regular driver was ill and it was difficult to find a replacement.
A spokesperson for Test Valley Borough Council said: “The sites are monitored and emptied regularly, but occasionally they do get filled up.”
