A HAIRDRESSERS that opened in Winchester 14 years ago has closed due to no longer being “economically sustainable”.
Hair salon and spa, Sarah Barrett, closed its doors in Jewry Street for the final time over the weekend.
Owners Sarah Barrett and Jack Parnell broke the news on their website. The statement reads: “It is with great regret that we must announce the immediate closure of our Sarah Barrett flagship salon and spa in Winchester.
“We have spent months trying to keep the business afloat which has been in operation since 2009. Due to challenges associated to both the Covid-19 pandemic closures, and now the cost of living crisis, with high employee salaries and rising overheads, to support the service level and experience we provide is no longer aligned to the current economic environment and is therefore no longer economically sustainable.

“This prestigious, organic salon has been a huge part of our lives both personally and professionally for 14 years.
“We have hit a point where we find ourselves in a completely unviable economic situation and feel it the right and responsible decision to close the salon.
“All members who pay monthly will have their direct debits cancelled with immediate effect and all members who pay yearly will be reimbursed with any funds should they be owed back to you.

“We thank everyone associated to the salon and spa for your kindness, loyalty and support over the years and wish you a positive and bright future.”
According to a Chronicle reader, customers were sent closure emails on Sunday, June 11 but nothing has been posted on social media.
The unit within the De Lunn Buildings remains empty, without a closure notice in the window. Sarah Barrett has been contacted for comment.
