AFTER 14 years in Romsey Town Centre, a bookshop is preparing for “an emotional farewell”.
In March, Peter Bell, of Bell’s Bookshops Ltd, announced that Superbook would be closing in The Hundred due to the cost-of-living crisis on Facebook.
With less than 10 days until the store shuts its doors for the final time, Mr Bell is encouraging customers to make the most of the clearance discounts.

The bookshop owner posted in the Facebook group Romsey News and Information: “Well, Superbook in The Hundred finally closes on Sunday, June 18. Once again, thank you so, so much for your support over the last 14 years. We've enjoyed every minute, and it will be an emotional farewell next week.
“Our stock is rapidly depleting, but what is left is now being sold at 50 per cent off our marked price. In particular we still have a fair quantity of history and transport books available, plus Gibson and Ravensburger jigsaws.”
Hundreds of customers have expressed their sadness over the closure since the announcement by reacting and commenting on social media.

Maureen Marke posted: “So very sorry that you are closing. I have spent many hours over the years browsing and purchasing books from your shop. I and many others shall miss you. Wishing you the very best of luck.”
Chrissie Bee commented: “We are going to miss you so much! Maybe you could get a van and be a travelling bookshop all around the surrounding villages – that would be awesome.”
Due to the decline in high street footfall and increase in costs, Mr Bell has been forced to close four other Superbook stores over the past few years, with the final two shops in Romsey and Blandford both closing this month.
The Romsey bookshop also faced potential closure in 2019 amid the rise of online shopping. Superbook’s final day in The Hundred is on Sunday, June 18.
