TWO partners from Dutton Gregory Solicitors will be taking part in a long-distance walk to raise money for charity.

Head of property Paul Sams and head of family law Jonathan Whettingsteel will walk 19 miles on Saturday July 1 to raise money for their respective chosen charities, The Rainbow Centre in Fareham and the Romsey Opportunity Group, with the two planning to walk from Fareham to Romsey. The pair have a fundraising target of £10,000.

To make things even more interesting, Mr Whettingsteel with complete the walk dressed as comic book character Cat Woman, following a bet between the two over whether Newcastle would finish above Southampton in the Premier League.

Mr Sams explained: “At the start of the Premier League season, Jon and I decided on an innocent bet on who would finish above who when the 2022/23 season concludes. Me being a Newcastle fan, and Jon being a Southampton supporter, the forfeit was to walk down (Winchester) High Street in a Cat Woman outfit. Jon lost the bet, however, we will both now be taking part in a walk covering a 19-mile distance to raise much-needed funds for two local causes close to our hearts.

“Jon works closely with the Romsey Opportunity Group, while I am a trustee and supporter of the Rainbow Centre. This one-day event will be a physical challenge, while also raising money and awareness for both charities and the excellent work they do. We – and the two charities – would be very grateful for donations and welcome the participation of other walkers who would like to take part.”

The Rainbow Centre for Conductive Education delivers life-changing services for children and adults with neurological conditions. Founded by a group of parents seeking to provide the very best help and support for their children with Cerebral Palsy, the Centre has been providing essential care and support since 1990.

Meanwhile, The Romsey Opportunity Group provides facilities for young infants through to preschool children, with special opportunities to learn and develop through play, with the group also providing respite for parents and carers.

Jonathan Whettingsteel said: “Raising money for two charities - who do such fantastic work in the local community - is something Paul and I are always pleased to do, and I’m sure Paul will be even more pleased if he can do it whilst embarrassing me!”
