I was interested to read that ex-city councillor Tait thought that it was a disgrace to demolish the derelict medical centre as part of the regeneration of the Silver Hill/Saxongate area.
It would be interesting to know if Mr Tait, when on the council, supported the demolition of property in the High Street of what is now the unimpressive Travelodge replacement, and similarly in City Road, the excrescence that was built in the middle of a not unpleasant row of what appears to be Edwardian/Victorian dwellings.
Could it be that Mr Tait’s reaction to the demolition therefore is more political than based on planning or other considerations? The editorial comment in the Chronicle seems to be a far more reasonable, and less dramatic, approach to the issue.
