WONSTON Community Café raised more than £400 at its May event for Church Panty Food Bank – a local initiative supporting families in need.
The new Church Pantry Food Bank is open in the shed adjacent to the Coach and Horses pub in Sutton Scotney.
As well as raising funds through sales of coffee and cake and donations, the community cafe also collected non-perishable food items.
This month’s café was the first warm enough for people to sit outside, with around 80 visitors including its regular cyclists and aqua ladies.
The next Wonston Community Café will be at the Victoria Hall in Sutton Scotney, 9.30am–12 noon on Wednesday, June 21. Next month, the volunteers will raising money to maintain the Sutton Scotney defibrillator, which is located about 100m from the hall, at the fire station. Parking is free and the café is cash only.
HALF term football will be on at South Wonston Recreation Ground from Tuesday, May 30 to Friday, June 2.
The sessions organised by Winchester City Council in partnership with ActiveMe 360 and Aquila Nuclear Engineering Ltd, will run from 9am-10.15am with games and matches for six- to 13-year-olds. Each session costs £1. To book go to bookings.activeme360.co.uk/book/167226.
SOUTH Wonston Sustainability was forced to cancel its climate café on Sunday, May 21. The group posted on Facebook: “Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control we had to cancel this event. We hope that it's something we might be able to revisit doing in the future.”
TICKETS have been released for the Micheldever Variety Group’s new show, Play On, by Rick Abbot. Performance run from June 22 to June 24 at Northbrook Hall in Micheldever. Tickets costs £12 and are available to purchase from ticketsource.co.uk/mvg.
THE Micheldever Station Heritage Group has opened an exhibition in the foyer of the Hampshire Record Office in Sussex Street.
The free exhibition will show how Micheldever Station evolved into a thriving community following the construction of the station in 1840. The exhibition finishes on Thursday, June 29.
FOLLOWING reports of anti-social behaviour such as “vehicle nuisance, the Alresford Police team has been patrolling the Blackwood Forest and Micheldever Station area.
Winchester Police posted on Facebook: “We've focussed on high visibility patrols, both on bikes and in the vehicles, to ensure we can all enjoy the countryside safely.”
MICHELDEVER Open Gardens will run from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, June 24. Many gardens open to the public in aid of St Mary’s Church.
Tickets cost £5 per person while children can enter for free. Teas, cakes and Pimm’s will be available.
ST Mary’s Church, in Micheldever, is organising a plant and cake sale on Thursday, June 1. The event will be open in the churchyard from 10am to midday.
Micheldever Lunch is back on Wednesday, June 7 in Northbrook Hall. For £4.50 lunchers can enjoy a freshly prepared 2-course lunch, a glass of sherry or wine and coffee. Transport can be provided for those who need it. The event starts at 12.30pm. For more information email triciapatston@gmail.com.
