A MAJOR housing scheme in Curbridge has been permitted by Winchester City Council.

The development, from planning consultancy Boyer, is for 482 homes, of which 12.8 per cent is affordable housing.

Located on Botley Road, the new development will form part of the North Whiteley Urban Extension.

When complete, North Whiteley will provide up to 3,500 homes, two primary schools, a secondary school, retail and community centre and significant highway improvements.

It has been designed to fit within the existing landscape and includes large retained areas of woodland and open space.

Work has already started on earlier phases of the North Whiteley development and this recent reserved matters approval will bring forward a further, substantial, new phase.

Joseph Hickling, senior planner in Boyer’s Wokingham office, said: “We are very pleased to have worked alongside the project team and officers over a relatively short timescale to have secured reserved matters approval for this well-balanced scheme. The development works very well in integrating with the rich surrounding natural environment - mature woodland and large swathes of ‘blue’ landscaping – while also implementing community-focussed urban areas.”
