AN ENERGY company has apologised after power cuts affected more than 900 homes across Winchester.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said supplies have since been restored to 927 properties following the power cut on the morning of Tuesday, May 9. The outage affected addresses in Badger Farm, Stanmore and St Cross.

The outage has been blamed on a fault in the company’s underground cable network in Rooks Down Road which developed at 6.20am. Automated technology on the network restored power to 500 homes within two minutes of the cut.
Engineers were then able to re-route remaining supplies to different parts of the network, with customers’ power coming back on in stages. All supplies were restored by 8.20am, the company said.
A spokesperson from SSEN Distribution said: “We’d like to apologise to our customers in Winchester who were affected by this morning’s power cut and assure everyone that our engineers did all they could to restore supplies as safely and as quickly as possible.”
