HEAVY rain didn't stop a patriotic party from taking place in Romsey, as people from across the globe came together to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

The people of Romsey gathered in the rain, to celebrate the reign of newly-crowned King Charles III.

Town Crier Terry Hamer performed his duty as one of 142 Town Criers across the nation proclaiming 'God Save The King'.Hampshire Chronicle:

He told the Romsey Advertiser: "It's a brilliant occasion, and a pleasure to be a part of."

Jonny and Julie Hind were at the event since 9am.

Jonny said: "It's been a great day, bit of a shame about the weather, but the fact so many people turned up just shows our Britishness."

Julie said: "It's been so good today, we really love the royal family and our own family have flown over from Australia to celebrate with us."Hampshire Chronicle:

One family member that arrived from down under was Keith Edmunds.

Keith told the Advertiser: "I've loved it today, apart from the rain but that's just bloody England."

While this street party didn't quite get the turnout of last year's Jubilee party, patriotism was not lost by those who attended.

The Mayor of Romsey officially opened the street party.

Both the Mayor and Mayoress of Romsey, Cllr Neil Gwynne and Kathrina Gwynne, were delighted to see those who did attend.

Cllr Gwynne said: "It's a shame about the weather, the attendance isn't like it was last year, but it's inevitable that it won't always be sunny."

He added: "It's good to see all the mad English people in the rain, it's the only coronation that most people alive will see as an adult."Hampshire Chronicle:

"The Carnival Committee have done an outstanding job organising this event."

Mayoress Kathrina said: "I think that Charles will be a really good King, we're grateful for everyone who came to celebrate today."

Members of the Mayor's office, Suzi Shilling and Nicqui Chatterley helped bring the party to life.Hampshire Chronicle:

They were "Impressed with the people who turned out, there are a lot of hardcore, determined fans here today."

They were in the 'Mayor's Grand Draw' tent, a charity competition which features prizes from major attractions such as hospitality tickets for Southampton Football Club, free tickets for Paultons Park, Bombay Sapphire discovery experience and many more.

The 'Grand Draw' will take place on Tuesday, May 16 and readers can purchase tickets for one pound at Romsey Town Council offices and Romsey & Test Valley Visitor Information Centre.
