WINCHESTER Science Centre’s Planetarium has announced it will celebrate the 50th anniversary Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon.

Joining 100 planetarium’s from across the globe, fans will be able to see 360-degree visuals bring to life the sounds of the legendary band on the last Saturday of every month between May and October, starting on Saturday, May 28.

Fifty years on from the release of The Dark Side of The Moon, Pink Floyd are celebrating by recreating their famous 1973 London Planetarium press launch on a global scale.
Visitors to Winchester Science Centre Planetarium will be able to join fans from across the world on an emotional and inspiring journey into the heart and themes of the iconic album and songs. Fly through the Solar System and zoom through the stars as the album’s 10 tracks play in chronological order.

Each track will have a different theme, some futuristically looking forward and while others will give a retro acknowledgement to Pink Floyd’s visual history.

On February 27, 1973, The London Planetarium was picked as the backdrop for the press launch of The Dark Side of the Moon. The group were expected to make an appearance but instead the waiting media were greeted by four life-size cut-outs.

Despite this no-show, the album went on to sell more than 50m copies to date. Now, 50 years on, the band want to celebrate this legacy. With the help of modern technology, revised visuals and stunning backdrops the album will be brought to life once again.

The shows will take place on May 27, June 24, July 29, August 26, September 30 and October 28 and will last from 6.30pm to 8pm. Tickets will cost £25.
