TRAFFIC light failure has caused major delays coming into Winchester city centre this morning with traffic queuing as far back as the M3.

Traffic has been building from Bar End Road, onto Chesil Street and into the city centre and also on Easton Lane, Winnall, and St Cross Road.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Romanse, which provides up-to-date reporting on traffic across Hampshire, reported that the delays are due to a fault with a set of temporary traffic lights.

It tweeted: "B3330/B3331 #Winchester - Approx. 30 mins delay inbound on Bar End Rd/Chesil St/Bridge St/Eastgate St/Friarsgate/Upper Brook St between #M3 J10/#A31 and Silver Hill due to a fault with the temp signals, engineers should now be on-site."

Hampshire Chronicle:

Stagecoach South has tweeted that the delays were caused by a failure of temporary traffic lights at Upper Brook Street.

The tweet says: "The traffic lights at Upper Brook St in Winchester City centre have failed and are stuck on red. Winchester City is at gridlock with all bus services severely delayed. We apologize for any inconveniences but caused but the disruption is beyond our control."

Stagecoach confirmed that the 9.27am 69 service from Waltham Chase to Winchester was cancelled due to the delays.
