A NEW takeaway has opened in the shop previously occupied by Bona Fides Fish and Chips.
The new restaurant, Deli Box and Desserts, had its soft opening today, Monday April 17. Manager Tariq Danba explained that the restaurant will offer a range of fast-food options.
He said: “We’re still going to be doing fish and chips, wraps, French tacos, breakfast, handmade desserts and burgers.

“We’ll make it fresh; we’ll make it ourselves. Some of it will have a Moroccan twist to it as well. So, French tacos are French/Moroccan, very popular in Morocco. We’re going to start doing Moroccan food, I’m originally from Morocco. So, that’s what we’re going to do.”
While Deli Box and Desserts is currently only available to order from online, Tariq said that there are plans to add a seating area to the shop. There are also plans to redecorate the restaurant and add signs to the front.
This is the first of three Deli Box and Desserts restaurants open in the south, with further branches in St Albans and Portsmouth, with plans to turn them into a franchise.
Tariq said: “We’re excited to be here, we think it’s something different. I don’t think someone’s done something similar to us, and I think we’re going to give it our best shot.
“I think our food will sell itself, I think our menu’s very tasty, very appealing to the customers as well.

“It’s something different that we’re bringing to Winchester. A lot of flavours, all homemade, our own recipes as well, something different. We’ve got milkshakes as well, we’ve got the college around the corner, the station up the road, we’re going to do coffees, hot drinks, breakfast.
“So, we’ve got everything. We’re trying to cater to everyone as much as we can, and of course, we’ve kept the fish and chips because that’s what it used to be.”
According to Tariq, the restaurant will have its full opening in “two or three months”.
