A NEW café will be coming to Winchester later in April.

Signs in the window of the St George’s Street lot indicate that the new café will be operated by the Navy, Army and Air Forces Institutes (NAAFI), which is the Ministry of Defence’s in-house provider of catering, retail, leisure and soft facilities management services.

The café will be located at 52-54 St George’s Street, in the lot which was previously occupied by Rawberry, which closed its doors a few weeks ago in March.

According to the NAAFI website, the new café will open for business on Thursday, April 13.

A post on the NAAFI Cafes Facebook page, says: “You might have spotted us on Winchester high street recently... we will be trading from 13th April until we transform into our next #NAAFICafe in a couple of months’ time!

“Keep your eyes peeled for our official opening date”.

NAAFI has previously opened a café in Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire. The Winchester branch will be the second NAAFI café opened in the UK.

A NAAFI spokesperson told the Chronicle: "We are excited to launch our second NAAFI cafe in the heart of Winchester. We will be trading from 13th April awaiting a full refit in the next few months, and our new cafes will be open to all with military discount available.

"We look forward to welcoming in the community of Winchester and can’t wait for you to see our new look!"
