DAREDEVIL abseilers have begun the unusual task of cleaning the planetarium at Winchester Science Centre.
After a long winter of wet weather, the white exterior of the south’s leading science and discovery centre was in need of a spring clean.
Attached to a harness the abseiling cleaners have been tasked with scaling the 65ft tall dome and pyramid structures of the science centre with a pressure washer to ensure it looks good on the outside too.

The cleaners finished the job in three, including delays due to snow.
Marketing officer Rosie Oliver said: "I imagine it would have been extra hard to clean in the snow and ice, they’d be slipping all over the roof. We aim to clean the Planetarium yearly, ensuring the Science Centre is sparkling in the sunshine and ready for Summer.
"We are so impressed with the job our brave abseilers have done. You can really see the bright white against the cloudy grey skies."
Winchester Science Centre is open, in Telegraph Way off Alresford Road, on weekends and during school holidays. Its spring season, Boom and Bloom has begun with Easter egg hunts, pollination exploration in live science shows and the chance to help plant the Boom and Bloom garden in the South Downs National Park.
