ALRESFORD is one of the best places to live in the South East and is as good as Brighton, Guildford and Oxford.

On Friday, March 24, the Sunday Times has released its Best Places to Live guide which has named Alresford one of the best places in the South East of England.

The market town is praised for being "pretty and peaceful", and boasts a number of good schools, plus great independent shops and cafes.

Although The Sunday Times say "it might feel out of the way", the judges add that it is always something going on thanks to the sports clubs, community choir and theatre, as well as a horticultural society and two art societies.

Alresford locals were delighted to hear their home was almost at the top of the leaderboard, with the winner being named Chichester in Sussex.

Kelly Mills, behind the counter at the Loaf Bakery, said: "[Alresford is a] lovely place to live, you don't really appreciate it if you've always lived here, but visitors definitely do."
