“The cathedral, the walks, I just think there is so much tradition and age attached to the city”.
This is how one resident reacted to the news that Winchester has been named the best place to live in Hampshire for 2023.
Winchester beat the likes of Lymington and Southsea to the number one spot in Muddy Stiletto’s County awards for the best town in Hampshire recently.
The Hampshire Chronicle went to Winchester city centre to speak to local people about the city and why they love it.
Having just moved into the area two days prior, Chris, 52, already believes that the city has a nice atmosphere.

He said: "It is quiet and chilled out yet has a nice atmosphere to it."
Jae, 72, said that he: “likes the history”.
He said: "There's a lot of things to do in a very beautiful place."
Local 74-year-old cyclist Martin lauds Winchester.
He said: "It feels safe here to ride on my bike."
He also said that there is a strong “sense of community here”.
Having lived in the city her whole life, 49-year-old Clare said she still enjoys the cathedral and conveniently all the walks are “quite central”.
Residents Judith Hutchinson and Steven Broadbent also describe Winchester Cathedral as one of the best sights in the city.
Judith said: “It is lovely to live by."
Steven added: “We are lucky to have such a beautiful place right on our doorstep."
