A TOURING light-and-sound show focusing on the elements has lit up Winchester Cathedral.
The show, called The Elements, was at the cathedral from March 6 to March 11. Inspired by the classical elements, the show saw the cathedral divided into four areas transitioning between different pieces of projection artwork, with each area having a theme of air, earth, water or fire.
Different pieces of specially arranged music were also played from speakers throughout the cathedral to create an immersive experience for guests.

The Elements, which is currently touring, is the creation of the award-winning group of artists Luxmuralis, who work to combine the qualities of light and sound through contemporary media. The teams lead artists are artistic director Peter Walker and composer David Harper.
The group has previously shown two art installations at the cathedral, a Christmas show entitled Star of Wonder in December, and Science at the beginning of last year.
The Elements runs at the Cathedral until March 11. More information about it and upcoming events can be found online at: winchester-cathedral.org.uk/.
Here's what I thought - a review
I was lucky enough to attend the show the night before it closed, and I could already see that it was going to be a popular one.
When I went to get a ticket prior to the show, we were told that almost every space had already been booked up, and the queue of people waiting to get in almost stretched out of the cathedral ground.

Once inside, I was almost immediately overcome by the atmosphere. The combination of music and imagery created an impressive display, and combined with the cathedral’s architecture it all seemed rather hypnotic. Lights and pictures seemed to dance across the ancient walls, all perfectly in time to the accompanying music.
If I had one complaint, it was that the cathedral was absolutely packed with people. Some parts of the show came to a complete standstill.
But regardless of this, the show itself was a visual treat, impressive in both content and execution. While The Elements itself is nearing the end of its run, I do hope that Luxmuralis will return to Winchester soon.
