WORK to make a Winchester playground more inclusive has nearly finished, with the park expected to open at the end of the month.
Abbey Gardens play area was closed in September. Six months on, the plan which includes ideas from public feedback is several weeks away from completion.
A new accessible roundabout has been installed and an inclusive swing is undergoing testing to be added after the playground opens.

The revamp also includes a slide and a replacement of the popular train, while paths have been laid to improve accessibility across the park.
Winchester City Council cabinet member for inclusion and engagement, Cllr Kathleen Becker, said: “I know how well used and loved this play park is in Abbey Gardens - I’m very pleased that it’ll be reopening soon and especially in time for the Easter Holidays.

“I’m particularly pleased that we’re incorporating a mix of inclusive play equipment, so the park can be enjoyed by a wide range of users.
“Access to good quality open play is so important for children’s well-being and an important attraction in our city - we’re proud to have the park and hope that children from across the district will enjoy many happy hours playing in it.”
Contractors are making the finishing touches before the play area along The Broadway opens at the end of March.
