A ROMSEY golf club has announced that its clubhouse is undergoing extensive renovations.
Wellow Golf Club, on Ryedown Lane, is undergoing refurbishment, with its clubhouse, locker rooms, and function room all having work done.
The work started on Monday, February 20, with repainting of the the lobby, while the honour boards are being updated, sanded and varnished. Meanwhile, the locker rooms have also received a fresh coat of paint.
The clubhouse is seeing a significant change going into the spring. In both the bar and function room the ceiling is being resurfaced. Following this, the entire clubhouse will be repainted throughout.

Once the major works are complete, plans are in motion to replace the carpet in the lobby, bar and function room. There will also be changes behind the bar to make the space more staff friendly and appealing to members and outside guests. The oldest tables in the clubhouse are also being replaced.
The work on the clubhouse is expected to be completed by March 22.
Meanwhile, the golf course itself is not being overlooked, with new course and safety signs being placed around the course.
When asked what his favourite part of the refurbishment is, golf manager Billy Ray told the Romsey Advertiser: “I’m a golfer, so straight away I look to the course! I’m very keen on making sure the course has everything they need. First and foremost we are a golf club, so if the course isn’t up to speed then we’re just a function room.

“But we do have 800, almost 900 members, and they are the ones who we need to look after.”
Billy also wanted to stress that the clubhouse will not just be for club members and that anyone who lives in Romsey can use it: “A lot of times, when people come to the functions, they are unaware that we are so close to Romsey, we’re half a mile up the road, and they don’t know people can come up and have Sunday lunch, that they can come up and have a drink, they can come up and sit on the patio.
“They don’t have to be a member, they don’t have to be a golfer, they don’t have to dress up in a suit and tie. They can just come up as a member of the public anytime”.
