Winchester Cathedral to welcome bestselling author for talk on Ukraine’s fight for survival
Journalist and writer Luke Harding will deliver his talk entitled ‘Invasion: Russia’s Bloody War and Ukraine’s Fight for Survival’ in aid of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine.
At 7pm on Thursday, March 23 - almost one month on from the first anniversary of Russia’s attack on Ukraine - the award-winning foreign correspondent for The Guardian will talk at the cathedral.

It is based on his latest book by the same name and will be followed by a Q&A session with the author. Preceding the talk will be an Evensong service at 5.30pm, which will include an act of remembrance and prayers for Ukraine.
Tickets to the event are available by donation and the proceeds will go directly to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal which provides food, water, shelter, and healthcare to families in Ukraine.
Mr Harding has a broad working relationship with Ukraine, having reported from the country extensively. He was in the capital, Kyiv, on February 24, 2022, when Russia invaded and previously worked as The Guardian’s Moscow bureau chief from 2007 until 2011 when he was expelled.
Copies of his book Invasion: Russia’s Bloody War and Ukraine’s Fight for Survival will be available to buy on the night, with the opportunity for signing by Harding himself.
The talk will be live-streamed, so if you can’t make it to the event in person, you can book a live-stream ticket and access the talk until the end of the month. To book a ticket in person, Winchester Cathedral is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and on Sundays from 12.30pm to 3pm.
